Does anyone know if you can use an OBD2 scanner with these standalone installs? What is the best way to read live info and verify everything works properly? EFI Live? I’m just curious what is known to work before I waste time and money on stuff that won’t 🙂

I think some scan tools that require application specific key cards don’t work because they require an ECM to connect to in order to get to the other modules on the system but I’m not sure.

October 2, 2024 at 2:29 pm #1537Jason DKeymasterLots of guys have found used V2 AutoCals on facebook marketplace, offer up, mercari, and automotive forum classifieds for less than $300, some for less than $150.
The new v3 AutoCals work ok but not quite as good as the older V2s – the passthrough functions don’t work, so resetting the adapts, using the gauge screens on a laptop, using dynamic vehicle testing, etc do not work with the V3s. I have already visited with EFI Live about this and it will not be fixed.
Flashscans are only needed if you want to try to tune things yourself and a tuning license is needed (GM or Cummins for example) to make adjustments and with this included it does make the tuner cost over $700. This is not the same as a VIN license (vin licenses are not required for transmission tuning by the way). Also it’s fair to let guys know that I am able to adjust things that are not defined in the public EFI Live software – so if you do plan to tune yourself realize that you may be limited compared to what I can do.
DO NOT end up with a tuner that has the most recent firmware – it will be a headache. Look at the EFI Live thread here on the forum for more info about that.
October 11, 2024 at 11:22 am #1539jlaustillParticipantI just got a v2 autocal on marketplace for 200 bucks. It plugs in and the software regcognizes it. It seems to be linked to a flashscan, I’m assuming that’s from the previous tuner. So now I just need to figure out how to use this thing to tell my Allison to relearn 🙂 I’m dropping my new engine in tomorrow, and oh man am I excited! I can’t wait to see how well this thing shifts with an engine that isn’t blown 🙂
I also noticed that my torque converter sensor was unplugged when I removed the engine, and it doesn’t snap in very well. So I’ll be putting some zip ties on all 3 of them so there is no way they can come apart. I think that may explain a few of my rough shifts. It was probably connected most of the time and vibrations were making it loose connection. Oh the joy 🙂
October 14, 2024 at 8:05 pm #1541jlaustillParticipantWell, I got my new engine running! First 35 miles and it shift better than any transmission I’ve ever had! I haven’t even told it to relearn. I’m going to have to get through the break-in period and do some normal driving before I make any judgements on anything further. I couldn’t be a happier customer! I send everyone your way, keep it up!
