Until aftermarket controller systems get better, consider replacing a destroyed 5r110 with a 4r100 in your Cummins swap project. Since the 7.3 version has a different bolt pattern than a 5r100, one way this can be done is building a 4r in the gas version case (the 4r100 that was behind the 5.4 or V10). These will bolt up to a 5R110 adapter plate, but you will need to change out the input shaft in your transfer case. You’ll also need a different wire harness and calibration for your transmission controller. It requires some careful consideration, but don’t rush out and have your 5r110 rebuilt – it will need retuned with the new trans and a 4r is a lot easier to tune.
